The official website and social media pages of the People's Television Network (PTV 4), aka Telebisyon ng Bayan, the state television network said that it is one of the three Philippine government networks and one of the largest and fastest-rising Philippine TV networks with nationwide reach. It operates 4 TV stations (Manila, Baguio, Naga and Davao) nationwide and claims to reach 85% of the Philippines potential television viewers. It also transmits through 1 relay station in Marawi and affiliated TV stations in Vigan and Goa, Camarines Sur.

However, the PTV channels command much lower audiences than their more vibrant and entertaining private sector competitors. PTV’s two entertainment channels RPN-9 and IBC-13 are both up beyond privatization with revitalization and profitable.

It was founded in 1974 during the dictatorship of President Ferdinand Marcos with the official name of Government Television for Good Viewing. From 2001 until August 2011, PTV was officially called the National Broadcasting Network (NBN).

Based in Quezon City on the outskirts of Manila, the government network strives to deliver innovative and alternative programs that dominates together in one network the strongest in news, public affairs, cultural, educational, sports and entertainment programs for a more solid and powerful programming to delight and make an informed, educated, inspired and empowered audience, serving as conduit from the government and to serve the Filipino people.

Brand and program development is well-aligned with the network’s mandate to provide information towards nation building and development. The organization’s flagship station Channel 4, the official carrier of government TV news and announcements, including announcements by the office of the President. Many of these are rather dull and uninspiring, so most TV viewers stick with more entertaining programmes on other channels. PTV is also the new home of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and imported Koreanovelas.

In line with PTV's vision to become the leading news and information channel in the country, news programming produced by PTV includes Balitaan, the daily morning newscast anchored by Audrey Gorriceta and Vivienne Gulla; News@1; the afternoon news program anchored by Kirby Cristobal, Princess Habibah Sarip and JC Tejano on weekdays and Hajji Kaamiño and Princess Habibah Sarip on Saturdays; News@6, the network's flagship primetime newscast anchored by veteran broadcasters Kathy San Gabriel, Marc Castrodes and Ralph Obina on weeknights and Jorge Bandola and Rocky Ignacio on Saturdays; PTV Newsbreak, the top-of-the-hour news bulletin anchored by Audrey Gorriceta; NewsLife, the late-night English newscast anchored by Robert Tan, Ysabella Montano and Cathy Untalan-Vital; and The Weekend News, anchored by Jorge Bandola, Waywaya Macalma and Joseph Parafina every Sunday.

Other news programs of PTV also includes Panahon.TV, the daily weather forecast and on-the-hour daily broadcasts on weather updates with Amor Larossa and PTV Sports, the daily sports news program with Snow Badua, Meg Siozon, Dennis Principe and Nichole Ramos.

Public affairs programs aired on PTV are: PTV Special Forum, Good Morning Boss, BizNews, Carla Lizardo's Personage, Veronica Baluyut-Jimenez's investigative documentary The Veronica Chronicles, Report Kay Boss!, Business Examiner and Gov@Work comprised other award-winning, alternative and relevant programs aired by PTV; along with public service programs GSIS Members Hour, S.M.E. Go!, The Doctor is In, Gabay at Aksyon and Pinoy U.S. Cops: Ride Along.

Educational programming are also included: Chemistry in Action, a telecourse for high school students that features lessons on chemistry; Physics in Everyday Life, a telecourse for college students that features lessons on physics; Science Made Easy, a telecourse for elementary students that features lessons on basic science; Fun with Math, the lesions of math about teach as numbers CONSTEL English, the series was a telecourse for high school students that features lesson on English language and grammar; and I Got It!.

Cultural, lifestyle and informative shows are: Kahanga-hangang Pilipinas, Tipong Pinoy, Upload, Be Alive!, Paco Park Presents, Lakbayin ang Magandang Pilipinas, Mag-Agri Tayo!, Tito the Explorer, Buhay Pinoy, Yan ang Marino, Lakbay Pinas, Camera Geek TV: Pinoy Best Shot, CHInoy TV, Asenso Pinoy, Kusina Atbp., Ating Alamin and Real Lives Real People.

Cartoon shows are also included: Upin & Ipin, Make Way for Noddy, Angel's Friends, The Powerpuff Girls, Camp Lazlo, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Teen Titans, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, and Ben 10: Omniverse.

Sports programs of PTV led by the UAAP games, along with Auto Review, Xtreme Pinoy Sports TV and Rod Nazario's In This Corner. It also carries a lot of official government announcements and coverage of the local and international sporting events, including the Olympics, Youth Olympics, Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games.

Entertainment programming also includes the popular and top-rated Korean dramas: Bridal Masks, Jang Bo-ri is Here!, Princess Aurora and My Love By My Side; the daily 30-minute game show Philippine Lottery Draw of PCSO; and two wekend movie blocks Sabado Movie Treats and Sunday Night Showdown.

PTV's commitment to broadcasting excellence, integrity, reliability, up-to-date and accuracy is carried consistently across all the station's programs.

In its area said: PTV is also known for the excellence it has shown in the late 80's by garnering and won several awards for three succeeding years from the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) and Gawad CCP and producing several award-winning programs. Since then, PTV's ratings often rise during the broadcast of the UAAP (university league), imported Koreanovelas and the lotto draw.
